The Costa Blanca has been named the healthiest region of Europe by the World Health Organisation. With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, you can enjoy pleasant temperatures all year round. The average temperature is 18C, which means that the temperatures in summer are not extremely high, and it is relatively warm in the winter. These temperatures are due to the microclimate of the area.
The microclimate that occurs on the Costa Blanca is caused by the fact that in the immediate surroundings, from Murcia to Denia, there is a mountain range situated in the interior like a kind of bowl. The peaks have a maximum height of 1,000-1,500 metres. This mountain range acts as a buffer for weather influences from both the interior and the sea.
The Costa Blanca is a pleasant area particularly for people with breathing problems, asthma and skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis and allergies. People with rheumatism or other muscle or joint complaints feel much better in this microclimate. Spanish people are very healthy and have a high life expectancy. This is due to both the climate and the food. The Mediterranean diet consist mainly of fish, olive oil, fruit and vegetables, which causes cardiovascular diseases to occur rarely. The traditional afternoon nap, called the “siesta”, also contributes to a healthier life.
